Bled’s Island Church
Slovenia’s only island sits in the middle of Lake Bled, a baroque church balanced on top of it. You reach it the old way, rowed across in a wooden pletna boat, then climb the 99 steps and ring the bell for a wish. A medieval castle keeps watch from the cliff above. There is nowhere else quite like it.

On the river
The Emerald Soča
The Soča runs a luminous glacial green that barely looks real, straight down out of the Julian Alps. Bovec built a whole adventure scene on it: rafting the rapids, canyoning the side gorges, kayaking the calm stretches between. Only a handful of rivers anywhere run this colour.

The Cave Train & Cave Castle
At Postojna you board a little electric train and ride deep into the karst, past galleries the size of cathedrals and the olm, the pale “baby dragon” found only in these caves. Twenty minutes away, Predjama hangs in the mouth of a cliff cave, the largest cave castle in the world.
